ABOUT US
Dear Mama is a love letter to the women and communities who raised us, and to the spirit of care that holds people together.
The cafe and our approach to hospitality is inspired by the generations of women who have collectively shaped us, and the larger village that raised us as native New Yorkers in multigenerational neighborhoods with extended family, neighbors, and chosen kin; who taught us what it means to show up, feed people, and lead with love.
The atrium sunlit cafe is nestled amongst the Columbia University buildings of its Manhattanville campus. This year marks a decade of Dear Mama in Harlem, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to call uptown home.
Our all day menu is created to be simply delicious, paired with an intentional coffee program that is always experimenting with delicious new drinks. Our bar program is curated by owner Zach Sharaga, who was the founder of the acclaimed New York Times darling jazz bar Louis 649, that then became MACE, a cocktail bar that landed on the list of Top 50 Cocktail Bars in the World.

To create spaces that feel like home and move with purpose. We serve soulful hospitality, clean yet craveable food, and responsibly sourced coffee. Our goal is to scale something personal—bringing Dear Mama to 100 neighborhoods while staying true to the values that shaped us.
